There are many otoscopes on the market.
But is there a better one?

HEINE otoscope's most outstanding feature is durability. Quality instruments from HEINE are no coincidence. They are the result of continuous research and development work. We started this 75 years ago – and we won’t stop now. Every single process in our very own production facilities is carefully thought out and is being improved all the time. With a single goal: to create products that last as long as you expect them to. Only longer.

Fiber optics (F.O.) is the standard at HEINE

What is the benefit of fiber optic (F.O.) otoscopes? In otoscopes with fiber optic technology, the light source can be found in the neck of the otoscope, and thus – unlike in otoscopes with direct illumination – not in the examiner’s field of view. The light is directed through the bundled glass fibres so as to guarantee an unrestricted view and even, reflex-free illumination.

Bright xenon halogen (XHL) direct illumination.

When considering an otoscope purchase, a question that needs to be addressed is how the light gets from the source to the area where it is needed. In the case of direct illumination, the light source is located in the top part of the instrument head and thus in the examiner’s field of view.

Let there be light – with LED HQ!

The most common types of light sources are xenon halogen bulbs (XHLs) or light-emitting diodes (LEDs). While XHL otoscopes are relatively inexpensive to buy, the halogen bulbs repeatedly need replacing. Our LEDs have a virtually unlimited working life. Since there is no need to repeatedly replace the bulbs, a HEINE LED otoscope can pay for itself very quickly.

XHL

  • Up to 15 hours of usable life
  • Accurate colour rendering
  • Suitable for occasional use
  • Benefit: Inexpensive to purchase

LED HQ

  • Between 50,000 and 100,000 hours of usable life
  • Excellent colour rendering
  • Suitable for frequent use
  • Benefits: Particularly bright, no need to ever exchange the LED, durable for an extremely long time

Which otoscope is the right one for you?

What type and model of otoscope you use will always be determined by your specific requirements – whether you are a veterinarian, an audiologist, a paediatrician or an ENT specialist. Criteria such as light intensity, focus, level of detail and authentic colour rendering are decisive. But robustness, high precision and reliability are also essential features that should be taken into account when buying an otoscope. So even before you make a purchase, you should find out comprehensive information to make sure you choose your ideal instrument.
